The reticulated python is one of the longest snakes in the world, native to Southeast Asia's rainforests, grasslands, and river habitats. It is named for its intricate, net-like pattern of dark and light markings, which provide excellent camouflage. As a non-venomous constrictor, it preys on mammals and birds by coiling around them and suffocating them. Despite its size and power, the reticulated python is generally shy, avoiding humans unless threatened, and plays an important role in controlling rodent populations in its ecosystem.
